Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Anne won her first singing award when she was sixteen years old at the St.Paul Schubert Club. A graduate of Pomona College and San Diego State University, she attended several music festivals where she worked with Seiji Ozawa, Leonard Bernstein, Martial Singher and Phyllis Curtain. She began her professional career with the Minnesota and San Diego Opera, and has sung major roles in many operas, such as Manon, Mignon, L'elisir d'amore, Così Fan Tutte, La Bohème and Romeo et Juliette.
Anne was section leader and soprano in the chorus of the Teatro Real de Madrid for fourteen years. She has sung in major theaters throughout Spain, including the Auditorio Nacional, Gran Teatre del Liceu and Teatro Arriaga. She participated in the Teatro Real opera program for children, singing in The Marriage of Figaro (2002) and The Little Sweep in (2005-06). In 2013 she toured Belgium, Holland and Germany performing in Choeurs, an avant-garde work directed by Alain Platel. She has performed with world class conductors, stage directors, and renowned singers such as Plácido Domingo, Edita Gruberova and Joyce Di Donato.
An accomplished recitalist and concert soloist, Ms. McMillan has sung oratorio on many occasions throughout Spain and in her native country. She toured Spain with the Camerata Pro Arte singing Mozart's Exultate Jubilate and performed in the Chamber Music series at the Teatro Real: Boccherini's Stabat Mater (2005) and Respighi's Il Tramonto (2008). Other highlights of her career include Handel's Messiah, Haydn's Creation, Brahm's Requiem, Fauré's Requiem, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Bach's St. Matthew Passion and the B Minor Mass.
As author, Anne has written a novel, The Heart of the Aria, and is currently working on her second one. She has been published in Litro, Eastern Iowa Review, Tiny Seed, among others. She received the 2018 Fulton Prize from The Adirondack Review for her short story, "Prisoners."
Anne currently sings in a jazz and folk trio, OVER THE MOON, with Edward Holland, guitarist, and Nacho Mateos, lute and string bass player.
